Noakes Group will again sponsor an 18 Foot skiff to compete in the Australian 18 Footers League forthcoming season, including the JJ Giltinan World Championships in February 2019.
A crucial stage in the further development of Defence & Commercial services at the Noakes Group was completed on 30 September with the successful delivery to Sydney of the division’s new floating dry dock, which is currently stored offsite whilst Council approval is finalised.
The diversity of Noakes Group expertise was on show this week when the boatyard was entrusted with the care of two famous ocean-racing yachts whose triumphs have come 80 years apart.
Tony Kirby’s slick Ker 46 Patrice has just emerged from the Noakes yard at North Sydney looking brand new.
Built by McConaghys in 2013 the carbon sloop finally showed her true potential in the 2017 Sydney-Hobart race, finishing third on corrected time – just an hour behind the overall winner, Ichi Ban.
Among the crew who powered Patrice to that impressive podium finish were Josh Alexander and Peter Langman, both members of the Noakes staff.
The refurbishment work completed at the North Sydney was both internal and external. Particular attention was given to the yacht’s underwater surfaces and appendages which are now super-smooth.
Patrice will be contesting the 1,064 nautical mile Sydney-Noumea race, starting on June 2.
